The first lead acid battery
In 1859, Gaston Plante created a lead-acid battery. This battery was heavier and bulkier compared to earlier batteries, but it had important advantages. This new lead plate and acid water battery could yeild very large currents of power in surges, plus it could power multiple circuits at once.
Today, automobile, forklift, solar storage, & golf cart batteries are modeled after Plante’s original lead-acid battery, and the basic principles of this chemical reaction have not changed in 157 years.
